About ↷
In 2005–2025 electronic music producer Kurt Liedwart was running MIKROTON recordings focusing on releasing an eclectic range of music styles from experimental electronica, ambient, drone to outer realms of experimental, improvised music and sound art. In the beginning of 2025 he put the label on pause.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Since the early 1990s, I’ve been deeply involved in creating, listening and collecting music across various electronic styles like Techno, House, Electro, Downtempo, Ambient, IDM, and others typically heard in techno clubs and venues with kindred musical spirits. I never released any of it on MIKROTON, perhaps just a pair of albums fit into what I really like. Why? I don't remember the reason. Moreover my silence about it has unfortunately caused some misunderstandings between me and other musicians, especially musicians from the label's roster.
In the late 2000s, I experimented with genres I’ve never really liked. That turned out to be a mistake. The lesson I learned is simple: never do what you hate — always do what you love. By the mid-2010s, after a brief period of making and releasing music that didn’t resonate with me — genres like jazz, free jazz, improvised music, new music, reductionism, noise, post-rock, sound art, and various forms of experimental and rock or punk music — I grew completely disillusioned. I never enjoyed any of it and gladly let it go, feeling liberated from the weight of frustration and depression. Ultimately, I decided to close the label, which by then had developed a musical reputation that no longer reflected my vision. Last but not least the label was never successful financially.
As for the future of MIKROTON, I’m unsure what kind of electronic music I will release when it eventually returns — or even when that will be. For now, my focus is on my own music and TON editions.
I hope this text clarified what I truly appreciate and dislike in music.
PS. In 2011 I launched Laminal which could have saved me from problems as the main goal was to release Ambient and Ambient Techno music. Anyway, I released only two albums and the label went west (I don't know whether anybody gets the meaning of the saying now).
Thank you to everyone who has supported me and the label over the years.
